The conference was opened by the speech of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gabrielle McMullen, followed by the launch address by Sir James Gobbo and a public lecture by Fr. Thomas Michel, SJ.
Governor of Victoria Prof. David de Kretser, Episcopal Vicar for Interfaith Relations of Archdiocese of Melbourne and Monsignor Peter Kenny, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Sheehan, and Honorary President of the Australian Intercultural Society Mehmet Ali Şengül -representing Fethullah Gulen- among other dignitaries were present at the event and have offered their remarks.
Premier of Victoria John Brumby, Fethullah Gulen, Orhan Cicek from Australian Intercultural Society, and many other community and faith leaders had sent messages to support the initiative.
