Evolution of the Gulen Movement [Hizmet]

(Video Duration: 1 hr. 30 mins.)

Members of the Center for Strategic and International Studies gathered in Washington DC for a follow up discussion on the Gulen Movement on October 19, 2012.

The group's director Dr. Bulent Aliriza hosted the discussion... and said that the Gulen movement, perhaps more than any other in overall Turkish picture, has been the subject of a great deal of discussion, criticism, suspicion, in spite of all the good work that is being done...

Presenter Dr. Alp Aslandogan is the President of the Alliance for Shared Values, a New York-based non-profit umbrella organization for cultural and interfaith dialogue organizations around the U.S., and Board Member of the Gulen Institute.

CSIS hosted Dr. Aslandogan first time on June 17, 2009 for a presentation on "A Brief History and Overview of the Gulen Movement".

Focusing on education but also active in many other fields, the faith-inspired movement around Muslim scholar, preacher, and social advocate Fethullah Gulen has recently attracted even greater interest in the U.S. Dr. Aslandogan discussed the history, vision and activities of the Hizmet Movement, as it is referred to by its members, or the Gulen Movement, as it is more generally known. He then responded to questions and comments by participants.
