2009’s theme of the Foundation of the Journalists and Writers was Generations of This Land. The guests included indigenous peoples. Fethullah Gulen, the Honorary President of the Foundation offered his tender words of praise and affection in his absence as he could not attend the dinner:

“Sharing the blessed period of time which we have observed is beautiful… I feel the pain that I could not be seated at the prosperous table of those who have devoted themselves to peace and dialogue.” (Fethullah Gulen, Honorary President of the Journalists and Writers Foundation)

Mustafa Yeşil, the official President of the Foundation and host of the event, said that dialogue which enable the people of different religious backgrounds and cultures to gather around the same table was in fact a life style lived by the people of character.
